Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018!

It’s that time again! That time where we get overly excited about seeing tons of games on sale that we don’t have enough money to buy or time to play! I pretty much just have fun predicting prices and seeing all the sales. All these sales go through Monday it looks like as well.

What I’m Looking For

Farcry 5 – I had a ton of fun with Wildlands. I’m told Farcry 5 is the same type of open world gameplay, but with FPS. It also has multiplayer so I’m in. Additionally it has a custom-map arcade, so the replayability is really high. I’m looking for something under $30 for the base game, but if I can get the DLC at a good price, I’ll buy that too.
Purchased: $29.99 off Humble with an additional 10% off for being a monthly subscriber and another 5% into my store wallet. I opted not to go for the DLC because it has bad reviews, and because I can always buy it later once I get a chance to try the game.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr – WTF is an Inquisitor, exactly? I’ve had my eye on this game for a long while. I’m a big fan of the 40k universe, and this game fits my holiday channel event perfectly. I’m also a big fan of procedurally generated games, which is what makes this game so massive.

Fallout 76 – I’ve been so up and down with this game. I’m not sure I like the RPG gameplay. I’m used to crafting a hatched to hack up rocks and trees. I’m also not sure I like the $60 price point. Seems a bit much for a survival game, even with the Fallout franchise behind it. I’m not expecting much in the way of a price drop since it just game out, but who knows.
Purchased: $39 on Amazon. Humble has it even cheaper!

Origin Sale

Runs through 11/26/2018. My recommendations include Battlefield 1 & Dead Space. I cannot recommend these two games enough, and they are both only $5. I continue to have a blast with Battlefield 1, and do so much better than other shooters. Dead Space was just such an incredible experience. I don’t normally play singleplayer games, or horror games, but Dead Space was well worth it. I’ve already picked up Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3. I’ve also got my eye on the DLC for Dead Space 3 which is just $5 right now. I plan to buy it before the end of the sale.
Purchased: $4.99 Dead Space 3 DLC.

Fanatical Black Friday Sale

There are over 1500 games on sale at Fanatical. You can also use the code BLACKFRIDAY10 to get an extra 10% off. I have  partner link which will help me out with a commission if you purchase something. Monster Hunter: World is 37% off  with the code and Fanatical is having 48 hour flash deals every day. You’ll have to check back each day to see what the new games are.

Humble Fall Sale

If you want to do your bit for charity, Humble Bundle is also having a black friday sale. I have a partner link with Humble as well, so you can help me AND your favorite charity by purchasing through this link. My recommendation from here is the Elite Dangerous. WHAT a great game! I cruised right past 100 hours in this starship simulator. If you are a humble monthly subscriber, the extra 15% could make this website your go-to for the best deals.

Steam Sale

Loads of good deals. I’m just going to list the ones I own and recommend. You may see a Warhammer heavy list, and those reasons will become apparent soon.

  • Space Hulk: Deathwing – $13.59
  • Battlefleet Gothic: Armada – $7.49
  • Dawn of War II – $4.99
  • Total War: Warhammer II – $29.99
  • Vermintide II – $14.99
  • Foxhole – $12.99
  • Jurassic World Evolution – $21.99

My E3 2018 Notes

I had a lot of fun co-streaming all the E3 events on Twitch. It will definitely be something I start to do more of in the future. I saw a lot of new games I’d like to give a first try. I’ve taken notes on what I found most interesting at E3 2018. I think Bethesda had the best overall show, but Ubisoft was a close second. I’ve highlighted my favorite announcement in each category. Let me know what your favorites were in the comments!

  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – Singleplayer open world RPG. Play as a Padawan that escaped the initial purge/Order 66.
  • Battlefield V – Pretty standard lobby shooter. Large scale area control mode coming, but no details.
  • Battlefont II -New squad system, thank goodness. Starfighter mode where you dogfight with hero ships! A new large scale sandbox where you capture command posts & attack/take out capital ships?! Sounds awesome!
  • C&C Rivals – Decent looking RTS mobile game.
  • Play to Give – ? Never heard of this before? Money gets donated to charities based on player hours played.
  • Anthem – Feb 22, 2019 launch. Open world, 4 person co-op. You wear Iron Man looking suits called Javelins. You can change javelins so you are not locked into a specific class. Only monetization is cosmetic, no loot boxes.

  • Doom Eternal – Further details in August at Quakecon! Takes place on Earth. I’m hoping for open world and co-op!
  • Fallout 76 – Open world! All humans are players! West Virginia setting, the good old south! Can co-op with your friends on servers filled with dozens of players. Can transfer servers anytime. Launches November 14. Preorder now starting at $59.99 USD.
  • Elder Scrolls 6 announced. No details. Open world and co-op could make this my first venture into the Elder Scrolls universe.

  • The Division 2 – Better graphics than the original. Boss’s armor falls off gradually as you do damage? 8 person raids coming. The Division 2 is set in Washington DC. Launches March 15 2019.
  • The Crew 2 – Open beta June 21st, June 29 launch. Preorder now for $59.99 USD. Open world across the entire United States! I really liked driving in Ghost Recon, could be a match made in heaven.
  • Skull and Bones – Takes place in the Indian ocean. You can Co-op PvE to take down enemies, then turn on each other to fight for the reward!
  • Rainbow 6 Siege – 35 million players! Parabellum is a free update.
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – Singleplayer, but looked very interesting. Battle scenes looked very realistic, and doesn’t look like a lot of stealth gameplay. Male or female character. Releases Oct 3, 2018.

  • Jurassic World Evolution – Take control on micro scale! Pilot the helicopter, drive the jeep, fire the darts! Sickness systems gives the game some complexity. I received a copy from the devs at Frontier Developments and will have it on stream!
  • GTFO – 4 person horror co-op shooter. Stealth gameplay is a big part, making melee weapons important too! Very intense looking whether you’re sneaking or fighting. Only 2 maps so far, that’s how careful they are about level design! Wow! Baddies have kind of a Silent Hill type horror look.
  • PuBG – Massive War Mode? No details but might be good.
  • Mavericks: Proving Grounds – New (lol) Battle Royale game, but! with 1000 players?! Massive chaos could be a good spin.
  • Hunt: Showdown – New weapons, and a new monster – THAT YOU FIGHT IN THE WATER?!
  • Maneater – Play as a shark! SharkPG?! Emphasis on roleplaying as a shark! Open world ARPG where you stalk Florida’s waterways.
  • Satisfactory – Welcome to the new Factory Survival genre! First person gameplay, similar to a survival game where you gather materials and build. You (and friends if you bring them) build industrial complexes instead of bases. Kind of an economy sim.
  • Resident Evil 2 – Remake of original RE2. No other info beyond a release date of Jan 25, 2019.
  • Just Cause IV – 3rd person, open world shooter. Multiplayer for the first time in the series! December 2018 launch! Sounds just like Wildlands!

Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales 2017

Games I Want

  • Rainbow 6 Siege – Tried the free weekend and liked it, but missed the sale due to work. [PURCHASED]
  • Warhammer End Times: Vermintide DLCs – Love this game so far, but I don’t like to replay maps over and over so this DLC really needs to be cheap to be worthwhile. [PURCHASED]
  • Gloria Victis – This game was $10 not long ago and I passed on it. It’s a medieval MMORPG, buy and play.

Games I’m Watching

  • Star Wars: Battlefront 2 – All the drama could mean a hefty cut to boost sales. I’d buy it at the right price.
  • Destiny 2 – Never played the first one, but the second one was recommended by a friend. It’s also a Blizzard/Activision game, and I love to support Blizzard.
  • Dawn of War III – I enjoyed Dawn of War 2, but 3 is focused on base building. Still, it’s Warhammer 40k so we’ll see.
  • Lawbreakers – Had fun on the free weekends, but a little leery of the low population killing the matchmaking quality.

Games I Recommend

  • Foxhole – I love this game! It’s probably my game of the year.
  • Ghost Recon Wildlands – Another amazing game, probably my #2 for the year.
  • Company of Heroes 2 – My all time favorite RTS.
  • Warhammer End Times: Vermintide  – This game is probably going to be really cheap and worth picking up if you don’t have it yet. Only the party leader needs the DLC!
  • Space Hulk: Deathwing – Like Vermintide, but set in the Warhammer 40k universe.
  • Battlefleet Gothic: Armada – An RTS using capital ships, also set in the Warhammer 40k universe. Should be REALLY cheap considering a normal sale put it at $10 not long ago.
  • *Total War: Warhammer II – I recommend this if you have the first one. It’s a really amazing game. Loads of fun, and a super value if you own the first one (mortal empires campaigns).

Legitimate Websites to Shop

I only recommend licensed key resellers.

  • Some publishers/developers are giving decent discounts already through their launchers (Ubisoft Uplay, Blizzard launcher, etc).
  • Amazon – Might have to wait a day or two for a physical copy, but might be worth it.
  • Humble Bundle – Sales have already started.
  • Fanatical (Formerly Bundle Stars) – Sales have already started.
  • Indiegala – Sales have already started.

Monthly Gaming Update 2017.6

Current Game Plan

September is going to be a big month. In addition to multiple video games, I’ve also pre-ordered a booster box of the Magic the Gathering Ixalan expansion. Because dinosaurs. In addition to that, I’m also trying to build up my Warhammer 40,000 tabletop army. I’ve got about 1000 points, so I’ll need 500-1000 more points for a ‘standard’ size army. Plus whatever life throws at me, so money’s definitely an issue.

Creative Assembly

The new Arena bundles are the big news for Total War: Arena. You can check out my video detailing the bundles here. They range from $9.99 to $99.99 and all include beta access and premium time.

Total War: Warhammer 2 launches on September 28th 2017! I’m totally excited to start stomping out my enemies with an army of dinosaurs! Lizardmen, ho!

Other Games

Foxhole is introducing an Amphibious Warfare update! The concept art for the amphibious vehicles has been my favorite. I’m SO excited to try this update out! Look for stream and videos soon.

Conan Exiles has launched it’s first free expansion, The Frozen North. If you like the Conan universe, and lots of snow, this is now the survival game for you.

Squids from Space is getting some cosmetic updates. You can change the appearance of your character with wacky colors and clothes.

Blizzard Games

Thanks to the new Wrath of the Lich King update in Hearthstone, you can get some free card packs. Just log into hearthstone before October 1st 2017 and you will be awarded some free Wrath of the Lich King packs.

The latest World of Warcraft update looks pretty fun. High Exarch Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner are leading the assault against the Legion’s homeworld. It’s kind of nostalgic, being that their statues are the first you see when you walk into Stormwind. I can still remember the first time I walked through the Stormwind gates for the very first time. I’m toying with the idea of checking it out, largely depending on if I can find enough Alliance players on NA servers.

Games To Watch

I saw World of Castles in my Twitter feed. It’s a game of building your castle, and sieging your friend’s! Keeping my eye on it, it looks really good. It releases September 16th 2017.

I also came across the VR game Soldiers of Freedom, which releases September 9th 2017. Think the singleplayer campaigns of the Battlefield games, but in VR. Looks really interesting!

Virtual Reality Games

I’m slowly edging into VR games. So far I’ve mostly played Island 359, a dinosaur hunting game. I made it through the tutorial and tried a little of the arcade mode. I don’t think I like the arcade mode, but the base game itself was a lot of fun.

I have also just picked up Star Trek Bridge Crew! It was half off, so I couldn’t resist. If you or someone you know also has Star Trek Bridge crew, please let me know! It takes four people, and i’d really love to play it with a full group!

Content Channels

I’m actually happy with how my channels are growing. YouTube is slow, but steady. Foxhole is the top content, with 5 of the top 10 most viewed. Twitch is steadily creeping up to that 1000 follower milestone! I’m most excited about this, as I’m told it’s the first big milestone for getting recognized by developers for getting copies of the games to showcase. Foxhole and Arena are the big games I’m playing now, both continuing to bring in new followers.

A lot of the new followers are coming from people signing up for the Twitch. I think it’s a good thing overall, it’s just hard to gauge just how big a channel is. Those people who signed up may or may not come back. While it could be considered padding of numbers, it’s still an opportunity that someone may pop into the channel to see what it’s like.

Monthly Gaming Intel 2017.5

Big Twitch Gains From Foxhole

Last month was a big month. Foxhole was a huge winner on Twitch, bringing in 200+ followers to the channel. I’m finally starting to get the hang of Foxhole, and getting to know each of the different maps. Lots of friends and followers are playing, and I’ve met a couple of streamers too. Look for lots of Foxhole this month! It’s a really great game, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Lawbreakers comes out today, August 8th! It’s an FPS lobby shooter with a zero-g spin. I had a lot of fun with the first beta weekend. I killed it with the Juggernaut! They made a lot of changes to the Juggernaut, and pretty much all the classes, for the second beta weekend. I wasn’t able to play in that at all due to work, so I have no idea what the balance is like now. I was really surprised at how well I did during the first beta, and all the changes make me hesitant to risk $29.99 on it since I’m usually not so good with the FPS lobby shooters.

Sudden Strike 4 is a new strategy game coming out. It’s a WW2 RTS coming August 11th. The US is a playable faction, so I’m interested! I watched a little bit of gameplay, but I’m not completely sold it. It looks good so far though. Haven’t had anything yet that can compete with Company of Heroes 2, so all competition is welcome! You can pre-order it now and start playing, and it comes with 15% off.

The Black Death has been doing a lot of big updates. It just keeps getting more and more interesting! They’ve added a new looting area called Reaper’s Rest, as well as Relics which are legendary items that only one player at a time can control. There are more updates, but these are the two that interested me most. Surviving in a medieval world has never been this fun!

Oculus Rift is here! It finally arrived after about two weeks. I’ve got several games for it, and several more free ones to choose from on the Oculus Store. There are also some pretty cheap games to choose from, one of which is a D-Day experience for $2.99 that I will probably get first. Expect VR streams and content SOON!

Space Hulk: Deathwing is keeping steady with its updates. Update 7 brings a few minor changes, but the big addition is the brand new Chaplain class. Mass group summons and revives! This game keeps getting better and better, and I can’t wait to see what it looks like come launch time for consoles.

Wild West Online should be heading into Alpha testing soon. I’m hoping to make the press key list! I’ve also got Secret World Legends waiting for more. It seemed pretty popular, but there’s SO much going on this summer it may have to wait till things settle down. Fortnite was an often requested game, and I finally managed to get a copy. I still have a lot to learn, but there are several people playing so I have plenty of help. Saurian is also finally out. A bit of a rough launch, but I can’t wait till more comes. Multiplayer is a promised feature, so there’s plenty of potential.
