SWTOR Companions: HK-51 Unlock Guide

How To Get The HK-51 Companion In SWTOR

In order to get the HK-51 companion, there are a couple of things you need to know.  WARNING: There are some spoilers below.

  1. You will need two characters to complete the questline.  One level 50, and one level 15 (or higher) on the opposite faction.  There is one HK-51’s component on each capital world, Coruscant and Drommund Kaas.  These parts are bind on Legacy, so you can mail it to your level 50.
  2. You will need to have access to Section X via subscription or unlock.  You can purchase an unlock off the GTN under Cartel Market –> Unlocks
  3. Several parts of this questline are Heroic, so you will need a friend to help you with this.  If you are both working on the quest, you can complete it faster because the credit is shared.

Quest Begins In Section X

A droid in Section X starts the questline, either Go-A1 (Sith) or B6-31 (Republic).  They will send you to find an NPC out in the Frozen Lake area in Section X.  This is an instanced area on the western part of Section X.  This quest ends with a mini-boss fight, so bring a friend.

Theoretica

The questline takes you to an unknown space station called the Theoretica.  Here you will have to search for an access card to unlock the engineer bays.  (There is also a door that needs a security card which comes later.)  You can find the access card on one of the dead bodies.  There are additional items to find for a bonus quest as well (datalogs).

Now that you can open the engineer bay doors, go through each door and find the emergency power battery in each one.  Again, there are datalogs in here for the bonus quest.  Once you’ve got 2 batteries, you can place one of the batteries into the console on the wall.  This will allow you access to the crate, and Deck 5.

Deck 5

Once on Deck 5, you will need to find the console to power up with your other battery.  Once you do that, you will not be able to get back across the room the same way.  You will need to complete a jumping puzzle of sorts to find your way back.

Once you find your way back across, look for a security access badge again.  It will be on another dead body.  This will give you access to Deck 6.

Deck 4

Go back to Deck 4 and enter the security room from before.  There will be another datalog and a little surprise.  Don’t worry, it’ll reset after about 5 minutes.  There’s a crate in the room that requires a fuse to open.  The fuse is on the pile of garbage in the room.  Now you can get the datalog and medical bay badge.  The Medical bay is on Deck 5.

Deck 5

You will be looking for the final datalog and empty stim injectors inside the medical bay.  You can refill the stim injectors with the nylite canisters that are scattered around the room.

Deck 6

First you will need to restore power to the deck using the Research Lab Power Breaker.  This will spawn a mini-boss that you may need a friend for.  You can use your stim injectors filled with nylite to weaken the boss.  Once done, you’re finished with the Theoretika.

HK-51 Components

There are 7 components required to unlock your HK-51 companion.  They are scattered across the galaxy.  Remember, you will want to collect all the parts you can on the character you want to unlock HK-51.  Only two of the pieces are Legacy bound.

These first two steps are where your alternate faction alts are required.

Coruscant

Component number three is in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.  Use the Burba Seismic Excavator/Scanner to scan the area for parts.  The location is random and moves after it’s found.  This component goes into your inventory and it is bound to Legacy so you can mail it if need be.

Drommund Kaas

Component four is on Dromund Kaas around the Dark Temple Approach.  Again, random location, and it moves after being discovered.  This also goes to your inventory, and is bound to Legacy for mailing purposes.

Outlaw’s Den

The first component  is in Outlaw’s Den on Tatooine.  Look for a Jawa vendor named Collector Kezzit.  He sells a Burba Seismic Excavator for 50,000 credits, and a Wrapped HK Transistor for 125,000 credits.  The transistor is one of the HK components.

Remember this is a free for all PvP area.  Be prepared.  You can also use your Legacy perk to travel straight to Outlaw’s Den.

Taris

The second component is on Taris.  You will be using the Burba Seismic Excavator/Scanner to scan the area for parts.  You will probably want to find a spot for it on your hotbar. This will scan the area for 25 meters around you, and let you know if the component is in the area, or close by.  Having a friend will really help you cover more ground.  If one of you finds the component, anyone else nearby on the quest can click it.  Once it disappears, it will respawn somewhere else.

Hoth

Hoth component number five can be found in the Glacial Fissure area, somewhere around Ambria’s Fury wreck site.

Flashpoints

You will need to complete two flashpoints for the final two HK-51 components.  Component six is in the False Emperor normal mode flashpoint.  HK-47 drops the component when you defeat him.

Component seven is in the Maelstrom Prison/Foundry, but this flashpoint has to be done in hard mode.  For Sith players, after you defeat Revan the component will be above the reward chest labeled ‘Loyalty Chip’.

Final Quest

After gathering all 7 components, you will return to an instanced area in Section X to complete the quest.  There is another mini-boss fight here that is pretty tough, some of the mobs can heal.  You may need a friend to help.  After that, you’re finished!  HK-51 is yours.

Unlocking HK-51 For Other Characters

Once you’ve unlocked HK-51 on one character, you can unlock it on all your characters through your Legacy.  It costs 1,000,000 credits per character to unlock him.
